Why should you bake your own dog cookies?
There are many different types of dog biscuits on the market, from solid bone-shaped cookies to small treats for between meals and therapeutic dog cookies. However, dog cookies do not always contain purely natural ingredients: Wheat flour, which promotes allergies, artificial flavors, colors and preservatives for longer shelf life and to enhance flavor, or simply synthetic vitamins and minerals are often added to conventional dog cookies.
If you want to be on the safe side, your dog is allergic and cannot tolerate many ingredients or your four-legged friend has health problems, we recommend that you switch to natural dog snacks or simply bake the dog cookies yourself. It's not as complicated as you might think.
These ingredients have no place in dog cookies
Not all foods that taste good and are healthy for humans are also suitable for dogs. This is because many ingredients are even poisonous for dogs, can cause gastrointestinal upset and, in the worst case, can even lead to death. If you want to bake dog cookies, you should avoid the following ingredients:
- Eggplants
- avocado
- baking powder
- cocoa powder
- garlic
- Raw potatoes
- Raw pulses
- Raisins, grapes
- chocolate
- Tomatoes
- sugar
- Onion & garlic
Some spices are also unhealthy for our four-legged friends. You can find out which spices are permitted for dogs in our article Christmas spices - what tastes good for dogs at Christmas?
Is there a basic dog cookie recipe?
There is no basic recipe for dog cookies. You can vary as you like and mix the ingredients together. For a creamy dough, we recommend a flour variation or oat flakes as an alternative. This makes the dog biscuit dough nice and firm and can be kneaded well and then shaped.
